Neurological rehabilitation

Neurological rehabilitation concerns patients with hemiplegia, multiple sclerosis, strokestroke, Parkinson's disease or other neurological impairments of the central or peripheral nervous system.

Our neurological rehabilitation centres offer state-of-the-art services to restore or maintain speech, memory, thinking and mobility skills affected by a brain disorder.

Physiotherapy

The aim of physiotherapy is to restore and maintain movement.

The therapy includes various measures that have the following aims, among others:

  • Exercises to enable better motor functions
  • Encouraging weight bearing in the lower limbs
  • Training balance and coordination
  • Improve gait pattern and locomotion

Each patient is given an individual training plan. This plan includes exercises to train and improve relevant movement patterns. These include for example:

  • Increasing physical exertion time with the help of an ergometer or exercise bike
  • Improving balance through exercises for the upper and lower limbs, for example on the climbing wall
  • Increasing responsiveness with the help of ball games

Occupational therapy

The individual care provided by occupational therapy enables

  • Regaining as much independence as possible in the activities of daily living: washing, dressing, cooking, shopping, administration, and finances.
  • Reduction of loss of sensibility
  • Strengthening motor skills
  • Working on dexterity, finger dissociation, precision, dexterity, strength, and writing.
  • Making orthoses to position the upper limbs
  • Balance training using the Wii Balance Board

Neuropsychology

Neuropsychology deals with brain functions such as thinking (or intelligence), attention, memory, language, motor skills, personality/behavioral changes, mood disorders, and visual perception disorders.

In the case of disorders, the aim of neuropsychology is to restore memory and develop mental flexibility, which is essential for planning tasks in daily life.

During treatment, the speed of information processing in the brain is trained with the help of various activities. These include games (card games, memory, Power 4, ...), computer programs (Igerip and Cogniplus), and exercises on paper.

Speech therapy

The aim of speech therapy sessions is to restore the ability to express oneself verbally and in writing and to correct swallowing disorders.

The following treatment methods are used:

  • Rhythmic melodies
  • Repetition of syllables
  • Cloze texts
  • Laryngeal exercises

Our speech therapists create communication or memory books to help our patients interact better with the world around them.
