Vascular surgery
Vascular surgery comprises surgery on the blood vessels – the arteries and veins (treatment of varicose veins) – with the exception of the blood vessels inside the skull and the coronary arteries. This branch of surgery also deals with the vessels that surround the heart. One of the surgical techniques used is the bypass, which is carried out in the lower or upper limbs to restore the flow of blood around blocked sections of artery. Peripheral artery bypasses can also be carried out inside the ventricles (between the left and right ventricles of the heart).
